Super Sunday

Snow is in the forecast. We are expecting a "slushy mix" of accumulation. That's a start. Ragged and I went for our Sunday coffee and paper reading at McDonald's after I took a three hour nap before noon and Ragged finished decorating the tree. After McDs we went to Target and Lowe's to finish up our outdoor decorations. Of course we are at odds on whether or not to put a wreath on the front door. I'm pro and Ragged is con. I think we need the wreath to make the front door look finished. We bought a spotlight for the door as well. The birds finally discovered our bird feeder, so we picked up some seed for them as well. I guess we'll be stuck inside the rest of the day. We have movies to watch and coffee to drink. I'm not sure what more one needs on a rainy/snowy Sunday.

Fa La La La La

Ragged and I went out for big old greasy breakfast at my urging. I was dying for some sawmill gravy from Cracker Barrel, so I went and got some. After that, we borrowed a truck and went and got a tree, a real live one, a frazier fir. It looks really nice and Ragged is currently in the process of putting lights on it. We moved the furniture all around trying to figure out where we were going to put it and of course the last place we put it was the best place. We also got a swag for the front door and Ragged adorned it with ribbon. She also put out various decorations around the house. I cleaned out the gutters and helped here and there with decorations when I was needed. I have grown to enjoy the tree and some decorations if not the other annoying stuff and you know what I mean, like Christmas music (insert wretching sound here). I didn't get much shopping completed this weekend and I feel a bit stressed about that. I'm hopeful I will be struck with inspiration soon.

I Christmas kitty.

It's Thankgiving In Case You Haven't Noticed

Our holiday actually started yesterday when we traveled to my parents to spend the night. We got up this morning and started cooking stuff and ate about 11 or so. About 12:30, Ragged and I hightailed it back home where we then went to Ragged's parents. All the food was delicious and there was a minimal of drama (I'm being forgiving about the drama, the food really was good). We then went to Wal-mart of all places to grab some various supplies and food, but mostly to get some catfood. Now we're home with some warm Starbucks coffee and a full three days ahead of us. Later we plan to peruse the ads to see if there is something we need to get up early to nab tomorrow and may get a visit from Ragged's brother and sister-in-law. Hope everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving. On a scale of 1 to 10, I'm giving this one a 6.5.

Hey, Turkey!

Holy crap it's two days until Thanksgiving and tomorrow we are going to my mom and dad's to spend the night. I'm not prepared. I feel like there is something I should be doing, but I can't think of what it is. Christmas is exactly a month away also. I just can't do it this year.

It's teh time of year for bruverly love.

The Final Countdown

Last night I talked to my sister who gave me some ideas for she, her husband, and my niece for Christmas. I already know what I want to get my mom, so that's a huge portion of the people I buy for. Now I just have to go buy it. Ragged and I are planning to travel to the Big E for some shopping. Complicating the matter, I woke up this morning with a headache and it has intensified as the morning has worn on. I've taken some ibuprofen. We'll see how it goes.

Quarter Pounder, French Fries...

Yesterday I indulged my fast food addiction and stopped into McDonalds to cash in a coupon we had received in the Sunday paper. As I sat down and started downing the nutrionless food, I noticed a local radio station was propped up in the corner with t-shirts and McDonalds mugs. You had to buy one of the new McCafe coffees and you got your choice of a radio station t-shirt or a McCafe mug. I bought a coffee, but I didn't bother getting yet another t-shirt or mug, but I did get a card that allows for a free coffee once a week for a year from McDonalds. I guess they can afford to give shizz away since they are the only company doing well in the current economic environment. Anway, I excitedly called Ragged and urged her to go by and take advantage of the promotion which she did. Now we can walk over there on Sundays and have a free McCafe coffee and read the paper together like two senior citizens. McDonalds was also giving away cookies and smaller sizes of McFlurry's. It was a fat-laden extravaganza people.

...Thick shakes, sundaes and apple piiiiii

It's A Snowin'

I worked at work all day today and so I missed most of the snow. Too bad. I think this is probably the earliest snow we've had in awhile. Anyway, Ragged and I ventured out to get some food and stuff since we were out of everything. My legs are cramping from my calves to up into my back and I'm so tired. Does that mean meningitis? In other news, I'm being bombarded with questions about what I want for Christmas. I honestly can't think of much that I want. I would like a new pair of tennis shoes and I could use some pants, but those are things I'd have to pick out/try on. In addition, I have no ideas for gifts for Christmas either. Maybe inspiration will strike soon.

Thar She Blows

After being "persuaded" by Ragged to rake the yard, I dusted off our leaf blower given to us by one of Ragged's friends who has no trees in her yard and gave it a try. I have to say it was fun. Not as fun as sex or eating off a buffet, but fun nonetheless. It took some time because we had ALOT of leaves but it didn't take near as long as it would have to rake them. I need to get out there again and use it to clear out the gutters, but I needed to rest and hydrate. Anyway, go get yourself a leaf blower if your bored and don't have anybody to have sex with or can't afford a buffet.

What's this buffet you speak of?

Grrrr

Today was one of those days where, at every turn, nothing but frustration waited. I literally thought of going back home, curling back up in the bed, and calling Monday a loss. I won't bother going into the details, but just trust me. Also, it seems the cold weather has settled in. Damn you, Bush.

Who bought this ugly thing?

What's with all the crap collapsing? I mean, two schools have gone down in Haiti and now a restaurant in Colorado has collapsed, too. This little girl collapsed and nearly rolled to her death. I mean what is going on?

I hope this bookcase doesn't collapse.

Boring Weekend

Today, after I scoured through the Sunday paper for all the weekly bargains, Ragged and I set out to secure some cheap stuff. Ragged bought her dad's Christmas gift, and I bought a draft dodger for our front door and that was about it. We ended up going to Sam's and buying some cheap strawberries that were out of this world. I don't think I've had better strawberries this year. It's really cold here and supposed to get colder tonight. Now, how far away is Spring?

I Have A Dream Today

Today feels good, like there might be hope and something good may happen. Please let it be.

Let Freedom Ring

I voted today at a new precinct and there were actually paper ballots. My other voting place had the machines where you press buttons. I guess that's what we get for moving to the inner city. Anyway, there were about 20 people ahead of me but the line moved pretty quickly. The poling place is two blocks away, so I walked down. I'm not sure if I'll make it to Starbucks for free coffee, but considering we have coffee out the wazoo at home, I probably won't bother. Now if there was a Krispy Kreme around, I may make the trip. Anyway, the ads are still going strong on TV, but they are subsiding. I have the day off and that's always a good thing. Tonight we're going over to Ragged's parents for soup and election returns.

Rock the Vote

Tomorrow is election day, thank goodness. All of the ads and phone calls and literature stuck in the door is beyond ridiculous. We've had calls from Martha Layne Collins, Bill and Hillary Clinton, and even Ashley Judd. Not them in person of course but pre-recorded messages. Every time we open the door there was a piece of mail from this candidate or that and I'm not even going to talk about the television ads. Tomorrow it will all be over and hopefully the right candidate will be in office and we can move on. We've got major problems we need to focus on. Unfortunately it doesn't feel like much of a contest as all the polls have pretty much predicted the winner. If we've learned anything from American Idol, it's that you can't become complacent in voting. So, vote for who you want regardless of who is going to win. You won't have any regrets and you may be surprised.

Wake me up when it's over.

A Frittata is Born

When we went on vacation to Charleston, each morning we were fed a different type of frittata for breakfast at the inn. I had never had one before so I was fascinated and it made getting up and going down to breakfast that much more special (besides being on vacation). Since then, I've wanted to make one and this morning I fulfilled my goal. I walked over to Kroger to pick up some of the ingredients we didn't have on hand and it turned out pretty well. Even Ragged gave it a thumbs up. In addition, Ragged cooked Italian vegetable soup last night which was also good, so we've added two new things to our food repetoire this weekend. It's the small things in life. At least that's what I tell myself.

P.S. Don't forget to fall back.

Almond Joy's Got Coconut and Mounds Does Too

I'm going to end the suspense. I know everyone is wondering what the title of my last blog post meant. You've probably been sitting around all day trying to figure it out or maybe you're just going on with your life and haven't given it another thought. Either way, here we go...Last night during all the Halloween mayhem, two little boys came up with a group of other kids. Ragged offered the first little boy an almond joy to which he responded, "I don't like coconut". Squelching the instinct to slap the kid off our porch, Ragged gave the little shit an alternate piece of candy. The little boy next to him who shall be known hence forth as boy 2 said, "Give me one like Matthew." We could have killed two birds with one stone. Ragged could have taken out Matthew and I could have taken care of boy 2, but we are evolved and tolerant and just smiled through it. I think Ragged gave boy 2 the same or at least tried because we were randomly throwing candy in the bags and who knows what Matthew got. Furthermore I'm not sure boy 2 knew what candy Matthew received either. He just wanted to be same alike or some other childish notion. Anyway, the fact is Matthew don't like coconut. See? Don't you feel better knowing the whole story. We never learned the name of boy 2, but we did learn boy 2 is co-dependent and ain't that enough to know about anybody. Now you know and knowing is half the battle.

What the hell are you talking about?

Matthew Don't Like Coconut

Yesterday, I rushed home from work in expectation of a rush of trick or treaters. Our new neighborhood is nortorious for having bookoos of candy seekers, but not early birds came. I don't think we got our first one until after 5:30, but I'm not certain. My guesstimate is that we had 80 trick or treaters. We started out counting them mostly to rub the number in Ragged's parents face since they only get a handful of trick or treaters. It eventually became too difficult to keep up with or maybe we were just too busy eating our stash to care. We had some really fun kids hence the title of this post which I will explain later. One kid even got tangled in our rose bush. Nevertheless, Ragged and I left home at 7:30 so we could probably have added another 10 or 15. We went to the local community college for a screening of a horror movie a couple of local guys made here. Hallows Eve: Slaughter on Second Street ended up being more funny then scarey, but I think that's what they were going for. The cast and crew were all in attendance and it was surreal to see such a thing that was filmed in familiar territory and with familiar people. We got home about 10:00 and went to bed pretty soon afterward. I was rewarded by a horrible nightmare which is appropriate for Halloween night I guess.

Now it's November 1 and Thanksgiving is bearing down on us. I have four holidays this month which is exciting. Also, we have lots of candy leftover. Ragged and I realized we really like Heath bars about halfway through the candy giving, so we cabbaged them away. Ain't that a shame?
